In the last post, we talked about our destination being a relationship with God the Father. God created us to have a relationship with Him. So the journey on our road is perusing that relationship. Now let’s look at one of the distractions that keeps us from that goal… the world.
The distraction of the world is simply our attempt to *get* things, e.g. the house, car, clothes, money, etc.
We are an emotional creature. Very often we are motivated by our emotions… for self-interests. Too often our decisions are selfish. They are made with *our* benefit in mind. The thing is, this is natural. (Notice I said natural. This is not necessarily a good thing.)
Our bodies are constantly looking for easier ways to do things. When we stand, we often lean against the wall. If we are standing and have the option to sit, we sit. When you work out, your body wants to grow that muscle stronger, so the next time you lift that weight, it will be easier to lift.
Our mind is constantly telling our body the easiest way to accomplish something. It is self-interest. And this carries over to our wants and desires. We want nice things. We want the house, the car, the job, the money.
This is not always a bad thing. It really only becomes a problem when it distracts us from pursuing a relationship with Him.
“But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Matthew 6:33
I truly believe God has a desire to see His children blessed (see Jer. 29:11). But more importantly, He wants us to have a loving and intimate relationship with Him.
Psalm 37:4 says, “Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.”
First, we need to seek Him. We need to delight ourselves in Him and His presence. This is the road to the Father.
Next time, we will look at the other obstacles that take us *off road.*
